DRONE is a four-issue monthly mini-series, created by Red 5 Comics co-founder Scott Chitwood (Afterburn) with art by Randy Kintz (Ray Harryhausen Presents: Jason and the Argonauts) and colors by Garry Henderson (Grimm Fairy Tales, Return to Wonderland). "In the near future, the U.S. transforms modern warfare by testing lethal remotely controlled robotic drones on the front lines. They are powerful, lethal, and effective." That blurb could be followed up with another that would say Drone is an all-new action/adventure comic series in the spirit of Wargames, with the robotic action of Terminator and Transformers. Well, it is, but then, not quite so--it is more. One could right away picture a mindless action-filled comic book and nothing else. With its first two issues Drone, however, not only exhibits a keen sense of structure, plotting and dialogue; it adds the bonus of some subversive commentary, Wired magazine-worthy battle tech and a pro-video game stance. I could not care less about writer Scott Chitwood's pedigree than what he does with Drone. And what he's doing in collaboration with the restr of the creative team is fantastic.

"Today's warriors are fighting without getting in harm's way, using drones to attack targets in Afghanistan and Pakistan. U.S. Air Force fighter pilot Major Morgan Andrews is one such combatant. He kisses his wife goodbye, drives to Creech, a tiny desert air force base in Nevada, and within minutes could be killing insurgents on the other side of the world." -- CNN

"By 2015, the Pentagon expects to robotise around 15% of America's armed forces." -- The Guardian

In the near future, the U.S. transforms modern warfare by testing lethal remotely controlled robotic drones on the front lines. They are powerful, lethal, and effective. To the world's superpowers, the technology is something to be coveted and stolen. To a group of state-side fun-loving hackers, it is the ultimate video game. But when enemy rebels capture a group of drones and lock out their military controllers, the illicit gamers may be the only hope for the surviving technician.

A preview of DRONE was featured in Red 5 Comics' acclaimed 2009 Free Comic Book Day "ATOMIC ROBO vs. DR. DINOSAUR" issue, building anticipation for the new series among a mass of comic fans across North America. -- series solicitation
