Osnovni Bugarsko-Hrvatski Rječnik
Author: Marija Roglić
Publisher: Sveučilište u Zagrebu - Filozofski fakultet

Publication date: 2010
Number of pages: 248

Format / Quality: DOC - Excellent
Size: 2.27 Mb
Title self-explanatory. Context on the book, as stated by Marija:

Ovaj rad izrađen je na Katedri za leksikografiju i enciklopedistiku Odsjeka za informacijske znanosti Filozofskog fakulteta Sveučilišta u Zagrebu pod vodstvom prof. dr. sc. Damira Borasa i predan je na natječaj za dodjelu Rektorove nagrade u akademskoj godini 2010.

More interesting is this:

The fonts are not embedded, I cannot see the Bulgarian part of the dictionary... Please, somebody, embed the fonts.

how strange...there is a small issue in the intro (two pages), but the main body of the dictionary looks just fine to me!

I see. I'll embed the fonts. It seems those lucky guys having the fonts installed by default can see them.

I'll upload the DOC file, instead. In a minute.

that's because you have the font, bin, can you embed it?

Try now. However, the font is just the system font Times New Roman. Obviously, 'system' here means XP.

i have the same problem with both versions, cyrillic а and х are not displayed. i don't think the problem has to do with embedded fonts. a quick look at the embedded font lists shows that both versions have embedded fonts...

I can save the PDF as JPGs, and then bundle them all as a PDF back again.

But then you won't be able to edit the file, copy, paste, search, etc. Both Solid Converter and NitroPDF state the font is simply TimesNewRoman (for what concerns the Bulgarian cyrillic). Obviously, you need XP system fonts (the ones with extended Unicode), and not just Microsoft Office TTFs...

Caveat, I'm using Acrobat Reader 7.0. Perhaps you have a config statement telling Windows to substitute Timesnewroman for, say, Verdana? Or you guys happen to have Batang TTF installed somewhere and acting as Times New Roman?

Anyway, I will reupload a pure DOC file... but then you'll need to have MS Word...

NB: Binmashish, what OS are you using?

Ok. I uploaded the DOC version. Pure Times New Roman.

Let me know if now is okay. If you need a free WordViewer, let me know it, too.

i was about to add that a closer look reveals that BookAntiqua and CenturyGothic are fully embedded and Symbol, Times and TimesNewRoman really fall back on system fonts. this goes for both versions.

no windows here at all, but i do have the xp system fonts. i've only had problems with problematic pdfs.

Okay. So use the DOC version. You can always convert it to PDF (CutePDF, PDFWriter, NitroPDF, etc.).

The XP system fonts are always problematic. And you cannot find them easily out there! If you happen to delete one of them, you are lost! There is a nice free package called Liberation Fonts (Freeware) that 'roughly' do the job. Embedding system fonts is something that MS Word doesn't like because, if you use XP, then no need to embed them (that's MS logic).

Finally, you come across the Regional Configuration problem in XP and the keyword language definition... a nightmare!

thanks :)

sounds like windows.. :P

the fonts in the "core project" was available for a while at the m$ site, but, sadly, no longer is. fortunately they were released with a license that allowed for redistribution, so most linux distributions have had installation packages for years now. in debian and its' derivatives it's named msttcorefonts. if you need the old windows install executables they are available somewhere at http://corefonts.sf.net/
i think the only condition for legit usage is a windows license.

Liberation is a project to create an open-source alternative to these m$ core fonts but sadly it suffers from the same problems as all open-source font and font-rendering projects do - patents...
